The Human Rights Tracker (HRT) is a project of Chapter Four Uganda, a civil liberties organization that is at the forefront of protecting human rights in Uganda through strategic legal response programs.
The HRT is an online platform for information gathering, monitoring and archiving information on human rights violations. The information is visualized in an interactive web-based map platform documenting the categories of rights violated, nature of the violations, people or groups impacted by the violations, identification of the alleged perpetrator, and brief details of the incident. Incidents that have external sources such as videos are supported with a link to the external source.
It is challenging to keep up with all human rights violations that unfold on a daily basis. However, by documenting as many incidents as possible, we hope to maintain a public resource for monitoring the wide range of human rights violations across the country and emerging trends.
The HRT tracks and documents incidents of violations that impact on civil liberties. The particular categories of human rights include the following:
The incidents are tracked without any form of limitation based on ethnic, religious or other group identity.
The Human Rights Tracker is based on a four-phased design that seeks to ensure the credibility and verifiability in documented incidents. This hybrid approach facilitates data completeness and quality assurance with narrow margins of error.
